Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Fer Lopez has praised the club’s new playing style under head coach Cesar Peixoto after his summer return from a loan spell in Spain.

Lopez, 22, left Wolves for boyhood club Celta Vigo on loan last summer after struggling for minutes under former bosses Vitor Pereira and Rob Edwards. The £19.5 million signing has now returned to Molineux and is relishing the chance to play regularly under Peixoto.
“It’s very good to be back,” Lopez told the club’s official website. “The pre-season has been tough, but that’s exactly what we need to improve-especially physically. That’s something I must work on.”
He added: “I don’t get many minutes in top-flight football, so it’s vital I play now while I’m young to develop and reach my potential.”
How has Peixoto’s style suited Lopez?
Lopez thrived during his loan in La Liga, where he often played deeper in midfield due to injuries. He believes Peixoto’s preference for possession football aligns with his strengths.
“He wants us to play football and keep the ball,” Lopez said. “That’s important because I need to be in teams that are positive with the ball. I’m happy with that.”
During his time in Spain, Lopez also gained valuable experience in European competition, including a standout performance against Sevilla in his final match.

“I can play in different positions,” he said. “The more roles I can take on, the better. Offensively, I know what I can do, but defensively I’ve learned a lot-especially in a tougher role where you cover a lot of ground.”
