Loan to Celta Vigo Boosts Lopez’s Performance
Wolves midfielder Fer Lopez, 22, said his loan spell with Spanish side Celta Vigo has made him “more prepared for football”. Lopez scored three goals in as many appearances for Wolves this season, including a double in the 3-1 win over Preston on Saturday.
Lopez joined Wolves in a £19m deal last summer but struggled to adapt at Molineux. He returned to Celta for the second half of the season, choosing playing time over higher wages. Lopez made 23 appearances for the La Liga club, scoring twice.
“It was the best decision I could have made, especially to Celta because I knew I was going to play,” Lopez told BBC Radio WM. “I went there, to Spain, losing money. There were some teams that would pay me double, but I think that at this age playing football is the most important thing, so it was the best decision I could have made.”
He added that the loan has made him “quicker, stronger, more prepared for football” and that minutes on the pitch were the key to his development.
Wolves Look to Build on Lopez’s Early Form
Wolves are hoping Lopez’s improved form will translate into a stronger start to the Premier League campaign. The midfielder’s confidence and fitness after returning from Spain could prove vital as the club pushes for a top-six finish.
