Wolverhampton Wanderers Women have bolstered their roster with two fresh arrivals, midfielder Mel Filis and former Nottingham Forest midfielder Hollie Olding, as they gear up for their first professional season in the WSL2.
Who are the new signings?
Mel Filis joins from Italian side Sassuolo after a spell that included four senior appearances for Arsenal and over 80 games across London Bees, West Ham and Charlton. The Republic of Ireland‑capped midfielder earned her first senior call‑up in February 2025. Hollie Olding arrives after helping Nottingham Forest climb from tier three to the professional ranks, bringing experience of promotion battles and technical ability.
Why did Dan McNamara target them?
Manager Dan McNamara recalled first spotting Filis during a FA Cup clash with West Ham in January 2023, noting her “terrific” display and “fantastic potential”. He added that her experience in England’s top flight and abroad made the decision easy. Regarding Olding, McNamara said she’s been on Wolves’ radar for years and her journey from lower leagues to the professional game will help guide teammates navigating the same transition.
How will they fit into the WSL2 project?
Both players are expected to add depth and quality to a squad rebuilding for professional competition. Filis’ technical gifts and international experience should lift the midfield, while Olding’s knowledge of climbing the league ladder offers a mentorship edge for younger squad members. Their signings signal Wolves Women’s intent to compete strongly in their debut WSL2 season.
What’s next for Wolves Women?
With the double signing completed, Wolves Women will focus on preseason preparations, integrating the newcomers and finalising tactics under McNamara’s guidance. The club aims to establish itself as a competitive force in the WSL2, hoping the added experience will translate into points early in the campaign.
