Santiago Bueno has joined Mexican side Club America on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The move includes an option for the Liga MX leaders to buy the Uruguayan defender at the end of the campaign.
Bueno, a 27-year-old centre-back, arrived at Molineux from Girona in August 2023 on a five-year contract. He made 70 Premier League appearances over three seasons, scoring his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham in September 2023. He played 29 league matches in the 2022-23 season before Wolves' relegation to the Championship.
With Wolves now in the second tier, Bueno found himself outside the plans for the 25-man squad at the start of this season. Technical director Matt Jackson described the decision to loan him out as a tough one. "This was our most difficult move of the whole window due to the circumstances," Jackson said.
The departure frees up a squad place as Wolves handle a challenging period. Their last outing was a 1-0 defeat away to Everton on 16 September, a result that leaves them with one win, one draw and three losses in their last five matches. The club's current top scorer is Fer López with three goals.
Bueno now heads to a Club America side sitting at the summit of the Liga MX table. The loan runs until the end of the current season.
